$1500 Energy Tax Credit on Roofing, Doors, Windows & More.. If you are planning for a new roof, windows or door replacements, then now is the time.  February of this year, The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was passed.  This offers a tax credit for 30% (up to $1500) of the cost of qualified energy-efficient roofs, windows and doors.  Although the requirements are stringent – only specific energy-efficient options qualify- the new standards were created to help our country become more energy efficient and to save the consumer money on energy bills all year round.  What are the requirements you ask?

Here are some of  the guidelines and important points to pay attention to:

• The tax credit is for the cost of the product only and does not include installations costs.  Be sure to ask for a sales receipt that shows the cost of the product only.
• The tax credit is 30% of the amount up to a $1500 maximum.
• There are specific product guidelines and qualifications.  Ask your contractor to provide a list.
• You will be able to claim the credit when you file your tax return in 2010.
